Kitchen Confidential: Salad Dressing from HEAVEN

So not unlike most of you, I attended a big family gathering for Easter. It was a BEAUTIFUL day in the OC and after church, we headed to my Mom and Dad's for lunch. There was a gnarly bocce ball tournament in the backyard, a bunch of menfolk (and Grandma) watching golf in the family room, and the kids even went for a swim (there may or may not have been a naked child in the spa at one point)!

My cousin Carlee was with her husband's family this year and therefore was unable to make her famous salad, so my Mom asked me to make it. NO PRESSURE...this salad involved salad dressing made FROM SCRATCH. Who does that anymore??? Well, I found out when I made the SALAD DRESSING FROM HEAVEN.

Meet the key players...seems bizarre, huh?!
This salad dressing, while DELISH, has a bizarre cast of characters. It includes 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tsp salt, 2 tbsp sesame seeds, 1 tbsp poppy seeds, 1 1/2 tsp minced onion, and 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce. Are you totally freaked out yet?! No, not even by the 1/2 cup of sugar? Well, check this out?

Dang, that's A LOT of poppy seeds.

Dang, that's even MORE sesame seeds!!! (note to self - remember your floss)

Ya, it seems outrageous and DON'T EVEN LOOK at the mixture if you let it sit too long in the fridge because it will fully separate into groddy layers...BUT, when it's mixed with spinach, toasted almonds, strawberries, and avocados it all works together to taste like HEAVEN. Which means that since Carlee wasn't there yesterday, I WAS THE FAVORITE. ; )

Hope you all had a truly joyous Easter and that it wasn't all about the Easter Bunny, but about the Resurrection! But in all honesty, I found out that the Easter Bunny still makes deliveries to 32-year olds!!!

Did you go to Mariners? I totally cried at the cardboard stories! Such a great service! And Natie-Pie joined me, which always makes me happy!

oh my - I love this. And I have everything except the poppy seeds and I do need a bunch, dang, a bunch. :)
Thanks for playing along. I forgot to put a link to my site with that button...sorry. I'll have that fixed next week, so people can find us.

I just had to throw away half of my homemade batch that had separated! Yucky to look at, but delicious on spinach!

I make my own salad dressing all the time! We quit buying it after we saw all the nasty ingredients and the inflated prices. I usually just make up the recipes (only for salad dressing, otherwise I am lost in the kitchen), but I have a killer recipe I love and use a lot too. I probably love it because it has a ton of sugar :-)

Thanks for this great new one to try!

Happy day!

I LOVE strawberry/spinach salad! I usually use pecans instead of almonds but otherwise our recipes look really similar. Isn't it nice to be the favorite? :)
