Being Vulnerable

Soooo, I've been wanting to learn photography for some time now and if you've been a BLAHg follower long enough, you know that I finally bit the bullet and enrolled in classes late last year. I've been blog stalking photographers for several years now and revelling in the beauty of their photographs; one day I realized that I should stop looking and start doing.

I've been threatening all my friends and family that I was going to start "practicing" on them and last Saturday, I had my first chance. One of my BFFs is having a baby in May and we decided to do a little maternity shoot. Of the several photos I took, I think I got just a few decent shots -- I've been playing around in photoshop all week. If you're a photographer, PLEASE leave me advice on how to improve...I'd LOVE some constructive feedback. Please know I'm a novice, though, and just getting started. Showing you all these pictures is showing major vulnerability AND I'M TOTALLY FREAKING OUT!!! Having said that...here's Clare! (Of the sneak previews I've given her she likes them, and really that's all that matters, right?!?!)
Uh hello, sassy mama!

She can't wait to bring the baby through those doors!

Um, perhaps the cutest thing ever!!!
The traditional bump pic...but I still love it!

Is my friend just too cute, or what?!

Say it with me now....ahhhhhh!

I think your pictures are great. I'm no photographer but I can pass on a little advice via my sister-in-law. She is really into photography and one things that she did when she started doing shoots was to look through magazines and catalogs. She studied the way they would pose people, and she ripped out the good poses. She made them into a file book. When she was shooting someone she would find the pose she wanted them to do and say, "Here. Do this." This may be totally elementary photography stuff, but it worked for her when she was getting started.

Good luck to ya. Pam

I'm far from being a photo expert, but I think they look amazing! She is so cute, and you did get some great shots...I like the idea above of using good pics for inspiration.

What a cutie!! I so desperately want to learn to take even decent photos. They don't have to be good, but I'd prefer them not look like a 5 yr. old took them with a Fisher Price digital. You're doing GREAT!

Girl!! These are great!! If I still had my pictures from I first started you would laugh!! I really think you are doing it the right way! I think I did about 100 free shoots to practice and get my name out and get a decent portfolio! When I started there were no blogs or actions or digital!!!! Looking at people’s blog for inspiration is a wonderful idea!!!! There is not seminar you can go to ,no book you can read, it is literally just practice!! I think that if you are shooting like this now the sky is the limit for you!! Please let me know if I can ever answer any questions for you or just to chat!!
God Bless!!
