Tool Talk Tuesday: Electric Sander and Spray Paint Gun

Meet my new LUVAH...the electric sander. This little goody can change your life. I've wanted one for a while now and when I decided it was time to take on some bigger projects, I knew I absolutely HAD to have one.

A couple of weeks ago, I ran down to the Depot and got my flirt on worked with HD professionals to determine which was the right sander for me. This gem was really affordable and it made sanding a BREEZE!

After I purchased the sander, I decided to refinish my stools that belly up to the kitchen bar...the wood finish wasn't bad, but I wanted a darker finish because they visually sat in my living room where I have a combination of black and cherry.

I took the advice of my many DIY Diva blog pals and decided to spray paint the stools. (Specifically, I watched Jenny Garland's tutorial, which was SUPER helpful!) After I sanded the first one, I wiped it down, then used a spray primer. I didn't expect my hand to be so sore after one coat of primer...but then I found THIS GENIUS CONTRAPTION! This $5 piece of plastic is somebody's gold mine and I wish it was mine!!!! It made painting SOOOOO easy!

UPDATED!!! I've decided to give away TWO of these bad boys!!! In order to be considered, just comment on my blog and become a blog follower and you just might be the lucky recipient of a spray paint gun!!!

I love my new tools because they took my stools (nice rhyme, huh?!) from drab to FAB!!! What do you think? Big improvement, huh?!?!?!?!

And now, I'm curious; if you're reading this post, I'd LOVE to know what tools YOU used this past week!!! Leave me a post below and, as always, if you have a favorite tool that you'd like to share, please email me at jj@theblahblahblahger.com and let me know!

Updated: I'm sharing this post with my friends over at Trash to Treasure Tuesday...because instead of getting new stools, I just updated the ones I didn't like anymore!!! Have you had success with repurposing? If so, share it with me!!!

Wow! Your stools look fantastic!!

I love the electric sander, too. I'm actually gonna get my sand on this morning. LOL

I didn't use anything new last week, but this week I'll be using a mitre box and a saw. YIKES! Tom said he'd show me how to use his table saw, but I'm scared of it so I'll just do it by hand. It's just a thin bit of trim...what could go wrong? HA!

Oh my, now I have TOOL ENVY! We do have an electric sander, but it's old and square, not real good on those details. I've never seen that spray paint adapter thingy, but I'll be at HD before closing time tonight to find one!
Thanks for linking to Trash to Treasure!!

Oh yeah, I'm feeling those "new" stools. The paint finish looks amazing too. Great job!

I need a sander, and I've heard of those spray paint guns and was thiiiiiis close to buying one a couple weeks ago when I was doing a big project but I said "No, I can tough it out." Why do I do that to myself? I couldn't use my hand for days after because it was so sore...well, one day day. But still.

I've got zero experience with spray paint. Sanders I can understand. Put them together and wow--that black stool looks sharp. It also looks wonderfully unique. I'm hooked on your project!

Love your stools! I totally need that amazing tool. Last time I spray painted I slipped and had a black fingertip for two days.

The stools look wonderful! I'm new to the whole repurposing/spray painting thing, so one of those sprayer gadgets would be really nice.

Love the bar stools. The finish looks perfect.

I poked around your blog a little bit. Very cool, very interesting. (Love the "not the tools I've dated..."!) We're practically neighbors. I'm in Rosmoor.

I'm leaving a comment, and I'll be following, but I already have one of those spray gun contraptions. :)And ya, a life saver. (or a hand saver at the very least...)

Looks fantastic! I def. need the spray paint gun, because there are some ugly 70's bar stools being recovered and repainted in my future!

I do read your blog, but I don't know if I officially "follow" - so if not I'll do that now!

Oh I want one of those!!!! I have been 'reminding' my hubby for about a month now that he needs to get me one of those....and not yet!

Hubby is Cabinet Man and I am TRYING to talk him into giving me one of his old ones when he replaces it...someday. Actually, I'd prefer the new festool one, but there is NO way that he'll let me have that one. When I help him in the shop, if I am VERY good, then I get to use it;D Maybe I'll just break down a buy me a little one...I'm going to need it this summer. Lindsay---your hubby will let you use his table saw? Mine will not in a million years ;D

OMGosh! I think I have died and gone to spray paint heaven!! That gun is just the greatest thing since sliced bread. Your stools look so great - very inspiring.

I think the sander is going to have to go on my birthday wish list. It's not every wife who can ask her hubby to buy her tools for a present!

I used a Dremel tool this weekend to cut the ends off of eggs! It was hilarious because I had it going too fast and it whipped egg whites all over the side of my kitchen cabinet!

The stool looks awesome! Great job!

Holy moly I've never seen one of those spray paint guns! I'm such a spraypaint failure, I wonder if that would help me out *L*

The only "tool" I've used recently was my hot glue gun. We haven't been doing too many crazy projects around here lately!

I loooooooove to redo furniture myself. I MUST get that spray paint thingy! :) I refinished all of my childhood furniture (white and gold frufru type stuff) by painting them a glossy white and changing the handles. It makes such a difference and people think I bought a new bedroom set! :)

Don't you wish you would thought of that first, you would be a millionaire by now. :) That's a great tool. I was just about to go out and spray paint my thrift store find.

Tools I've used this week: my little sander, paint scraper, spray paint, shovel, trowel, soil scoop, Kitchen Aid mixer (a great tool!), pliers, embossing gun, paper cutter and Cuttlebug. A fun tool week indeed!

I like the spray paint adapter and I like your blog!

Oh, I am so following your blog now. I totally want/need that spray paint gun for my larger projects!

How did you sand the dowels so well? Nice!

awesome blog, awesome post... I totally need that gun... I don't understand why anyone ever paints any other way but by spray paint!
