Imagine my surprise, when I found out that changing my broken screen door to THE SAME EXACT ONE would require a six page application, getting sign-offs from four neighbors, and a FORTY FIVE DAY REVIEW PERIOD. Ooh la la, I was seething with anger!
Needless to say, I sent an email informing the HOA that their terrible management made me regret living here. It wasn't too snotty...not as bad as I'd wanted it to be. Then I asked when the next board of director's meeting was.
I showed up, made my case to the board about how inefficient and riddled with red tape this process seemed to be and I saw them all nod their heads. Then the HOA staff started to back peddle and talk fast. I knew I had her. So, the outcome...they changed our CC&Rs and By Laws. And I'm getting my new screen door.
And this adorable key. Because I need a trophy to celebrate my victory! PS - for those who are wondering, this precious key is from Stat Key Company!

You are so dominating. I should have had you fight for me when we had to pay a $200 architectual fee when we changed out our windows.
Good for you! I cannot believe there would be such work to get the exact same door!
You go, Girl! Stupid laws are so...stupid. Maybe you should enter the polital arena and get us all straightened out! :0)
Love that key, BTW. Can you get them anywhere? I want one!
Way to go! HOA is litterally like talking down The Man, or in this case, The Woman. That deserves a celebratory cocktail.
We just moved from Florida to northern Kentucky and we moved to a neighborhood with HOA and dues.
When we closed (Nov 9) they collected $400 for us as a welcome to the neighborhood and then sent me a bill on Jan 1 for $310. I mailed it in (this is a portions of the year) and they sent me a bill for 10 cent! Can you believe it?
I told my husband that they spent 44 cent to mail me a bill instead of adding it to the next payment. So stupid.
Glad you went and fought and won! I like having HOA's because it keeps the crap out but sometimes it goes overboard.
I don't own a house yet...but I'm not too keen on HOA's...something to really think about!
i hear ya sista! i sit on our hoa board and i hate us. i am constantly fighting with the"old-guard" as they attempt to put more rules and i want to take them away. i am on the board because i am afraid not to be...condo living can be a drag sometimes...but i do like not having to mow my own lawn!
popping by from sits
HOA = nightmare. Stand up. Way to go!
WAY TO GO! Our HOA is completely ridiculous on so many levels AND they just raised our fees last year. One example is that apparently there is some crazy rule about the mailboxes having to be replaced through them if they get knocked down and they cost about $400! We haven't crossed that nasty bridge, but someone played mailbox derby with at our friends house and they had to pay the $400 replacement fee. Boy, were they mad. We ALL were mad for them.
Nice to see someone sticking up to the Big HOA!
you rule...if anyone can take down an HOA its JJ!!
After meeting you, and talking about your personality, I just love this! And you! :)
